authority to constcuct a railroad from Taunton to a junction with The Boston and Providence

Railroad at Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Incorporation WEST STOCKBRIDGE RAILROAD CORPORATION incorporated in Massachusetts. Constructed a railroad from West

Stockbridge to the Massachusetts-New York state line, 2.5

miles, connecting and with the Western Railroad which would become the Boston & Albany. (Company organized April 28,

Incorporation NEW HAVEN & NORTHAMPTON COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts to build a CANAL from New Haven to

Northampton, taking over the insolvent Farmington canal and the Hampshire and Hampden canals. (Company organized June

22, 1836.)

4/16/1836
Incorporation SEEKONK BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts. Constructed a railroad from Old Wharf

Point on the easterly side of the Seekonk River northerly through Rocky Point to a junction with the Boston & Providence

Railroad near India Point, a distance of about 2,000 feet. (Company organized June 21, 1836.)

4/13/1837
Incorporation BERKSHIRE RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts. Constructed a railroad from West Stockbridge,

Massachusetts to the Connecticut line near Ashley Falls, 21. 14

miles, connecting with the Housatonic Railroad. (Company organized March 29, 1838.)

Incorporation OLD COLONY RAILROAD CORPORATION (No. 1) incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to construct a railroad

from the terminus of The Taunton Branch Railroad at Taunton to New Bedford.

4/5/1839
Incorporation HARTFORD & SPRINGFIELD RAILROAD CORPORATION incorporated in Massachusetts with authority to construct a

railroad from Springfield south to the Connecticut state line, there connecting with a road authorized by Connecticut.

(Company organized October 6, 1841.)

4/1/1842
Opening of Service NEW HAVEN & NORTHAMPTON CANAL opened for entire length sometime during Spring.

4/1/1844
Opening of Service WEST STOCKBRIDGE RAILROAD opened, West Stockbridge to New York state line, about 2.79 miles.

4/7/1845
Opening of Service STOUGHTON BRANCH RAILROAD opened Canton Junction to Stoughton.

4/6/1846
Incorporation HANOVER BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to

construct a railroad from the Old Colony Railroad of Abington to Hanover. (Charter lapsed and was revived April 20,
