4/30/1849
Milestone THE HARTFORD & NEW HAVEN RAILROAD COMPANY entered into an agreement to discontinue its connections

with the New Haven - New York boat line, except for the night boat train, and commenced running its trains over the NEW

YORK & NEW HAVEN from Mill River Junction to the Chapel Street Station of the latter road. The two companies also

entered into an agreement to prevent the NEW HAVEN & NORTHAMPTON COMPANY from building northward in

competition with the HARTFORD & NEW HAVEN RAILROAD.

Opening of Service NEW HAVEN AND NORTHAMPTON RAILROAD opened, from Plainville to Granby, CT.

4/2/1850
Merger THE BRANCH COMPANY merged into HARTFORD & NEW HAVEN RAILROAD COMPANY.

4/24/1850
Merger THE MIDDLETOWN RAILROAD COMPANY merged into HARTFORD & NEW HAVEN RAILROAD COMPANY.

4/20/1852
Incorporation BELLINGHAM BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to construct a railroad

from Bellingham, Massachusetts to the state line of Rhode Island near Woonsocket. (Leased to and location rights assumed

by THE NEW YORK AND BOSTON RAILROAD COMPANY.)

Incorporation BOSTON & NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts.

4/9/1861
Incorporation MIDLAND LAND DAMAGE COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts by the owners of land covered and occupied by the

MIDLAND RAILROAD. (Company organized June 7, 1861.)

4/11/1861
Incorporation VINEYARD SOUND RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts with authority to construct a railroad from the

CAPE COD RAILROAD at Monument station (now Buzzard’s Bay) to Woods Hole.

4/18/1861
Milestone Sixth Massachusetts Regiment arrives at New Haven station in New York at 7:30 AM; takes breakfast at Astor House, St.

Nicholas and Metropolitan Hotels; leave Jersey City for Washington at 1:00 PM in 18-car train drawn by locomotive

Walcott; arrive at Walnut Street Wharf, Philadelphia at 7:30 PM and are quartered in the Girard House; Fourth Massachusetts

arrives in New York in steamboat State of Maine; Eighth Massachusetts departs Boston at night.

Incorporation OLD COLONY & NEWPORT RAILWAY COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts with authority to effect a union of

THE NEWPORT & FALL RIVER RAILROAD COMPANY with THE OLD COLONY & FALL RIVER RAILROAD

Incorporation FOXBOROUGH BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts with authority to construct a railroad

from Mansfield (at the junction of the Taunton Branch and the BOSTON & PROVIDENCE RAILROAD) to Walpole, at

some point on the MIDLAND RAILROAD (afterwards NEW ENGLAND RAILROAD.)
