Milestone SOUTHERN MIDLAND RAILROAD contracted for the completion of the railroad so that the BOSTON, HARTFORD &

ERIE would be able to form a through line from Boston to the Hudson River. It did not operate any portion of the road.

Incorporation HANOVER BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY charter revived.

4/3/1865
Opening of Service FALL RIVER, WARREN & PROVIDENCE RAILROAD COMPANY opened from Warren, Rhode Island to Brayton Point

on the northerly side of the Taunton Great River, about 5.8 miles. The company operated a ferry from Brayton Point to Fall

River, operated by PROVIDENCE, WARREN & BRISTOL RAILROAD until June 30, 1865.

4/3/1866
Opening of Service MIDLAND RAILROAD reopened from Boston to Readville (in disuse since 1858) and to South Dedham in 1867.

4/23/1866
Incorporation THE HARLEM RIVER AND PORT CHESTER RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated. Constructed a railroad from New

Rochelle to Harlem River, 11.5 miles. (Company organized June 13, 1868.)

Incorporation BOSTON, CLINTON & FITCHBURG RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, being a change in name of

the former AGRICULTURAL BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY.

Incorporation PLYMOUTH & VINEYARD SOUND RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, being a change in name

from the VINEYARD SOUND RAILROAD COMPANY, with authority to extend its proposed road from Buzzard’s Bay to

Incorporation THE NEW YORK, NEW HAVEN AND HARTFORD RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts.

Incorporation RHODE ISLAND & MASSACHUSETTS RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Rhode Island, changing the name from

the RHODE ISLAND MINING RAILROAD COMPANY, and authorizing the new company to construct a railroad from

Valley Falls, Rhode Island to Franklin, Massachusetts.

4/23/1872
Incorporation PROVIDENCE SPRINGFIELD RAILROAD COMPANY formed, changing the name from the WOONASQUATUCKET

RAILROAD COMPANY. Constructed a railroad from Providence to Pascoag, 23 miles.

Opening of Service UNION FREIGHT RAILROAD opened.

4/17/1873
Bankruptcy BOSTON, HARTFORD & ERIE RAILROAD COMPANY reorganized by bondholders under name of NEW YORK &

NEW ENGLAND RAILROAD COMPANY.

4/28/1874
Acquisition MIDDLEBOROUGH & TAUNTON RAILROAD CORPORATION deeded to OLD COLONY RAILROAD COMPANY.

4/4/1875
Opening of Service RHINEBECK AND CONNECTICUT RAILROAD opened, Rhinecliff to Boston Corners, about 35.2 mlles.
