purpose of consolidating the NEW BEDFORD RAILROAD COMPANY and the BOSTON, CLINTON & FITCHBURG

RAILROAD COMPANY.

Incorporation NEW BEDFORD RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts for the purpose of effecting a consolidation of the

railroads between New Bedford and Fitchburg.

Opening of Service PROVIDENCE AND WORCESTER RAILROAD opened its extension from Green Street, Worcester to a Union Station east

of Grafton Street.

2/21/1877
Opening of Service NORWICH AND WORCESTER RAILROAD opened South Worcester to Union Station east of Grafton Street, Worcester.

Milestone William D. Bishop steps down as President of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Company and is succeeded by

George Henry Watrous. Bishop continued as a Director of the road until his death from chronic endocarditis at age 76, in

Bridgeport, CT, on February 4, 1904.

Sale Portion of original CHARLES RIVER RAILROAD from Brookline to Newton Upper Falls sold by NEW YORK & NEW

ENGLAND RAILROAD to BOSTON & ALBANY.

Acquisition Capital stock and bonds of PONTIAC BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY acquired by NEW YORK, PROVIDENCE &

BOSTON RAILROAD COMPANY.

2/10/1885
Merger PONTIAC BRANCH RAILROAD COMPANY merged with the NEW YORK, PROVIDENCE & BOSTON RAILROAD.

2/25/1887
Incorporation THE CHATHAM RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated. Constructed a railroad from Harwich to Chatham, 7.1 miles.

(Company organized March 15, 1887.)

2/27/1888
Merger LOWELL & FRAMINGHAM RAILROAD COMPANY consolidated with OLD COLONY RAILROAD COMPANY.

2/15/1892
Opening of Service THE OLD COLONY RAILROAD opened an extension from Walpole Junction to Norwood Junction, about 5.7 miles.

2/3/1893
Acquisition NEW YORK, PROVIDENCE & BOSTON RAILROAD COMPANY deeded to THE NEW YORK, NEW HAVEN &

HARTFORD RAILROAD COMPANY.
