Opening of Service HANOVER BRANCH RAILROAD opened, Abington to Hanover, 7.8 miles.

Sale CAPE COD CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY deeded to CAPE COD RAILROAD COMPANY.

Merger FITCHBURG & WORCESTER RAILROAD COMPANY consolidated with BOSTON, CLINTON & FITCHBURG

RAILROAD COMPANY under name of latter company.

Opening of Service DANBURY & NORWALK RAILROAD opened, Ridgefield to Branchville, 3.97 miles.

7/6/1871
Incorporation CONNECTICUT CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Connecticut. Constructed a railroad from the

Hartford. Providence & Fishkill at East Hartford to the Massachusetts line, 20.25 miles, to connect with the Springfield &

New London Railroad; also a branch from Melrose to West Street, Rockvllle, 7 miles, connecting with the Rockville

Railroad. (Company organized February 3, 1873.)

Incorporation THE NEW YORK, NEW HAVEN AND HARTFORD RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Connecticut, for the

purpose of consolidating the HARTFORD & NEW HAVEN RAILROAD COMPANY and the NEW YORK & NEW

HAVEN RAILROAD COMPANY.

Opening of Service The Connecticut Valley Railroad - Service begins between Hartford (State St) and Saybrook Point. Line would later become

the Valley Division of the NYNH&H.

Opening of Service DUXBURY & COHASSET RAILROAD opened from Greenbush to Marshfield.

Opening of Service DANBURY & NORWALK branch, Hawleyville to Bethel opened, 6 miles.

Opening of Service CONNECTICUT VALLEY RAILROAD opened, Saybrook Point to Fenwick.

Milestone William Darius Bishop is elected the first President of the newly formed New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad

Company, which merged the New York & New Haven, and Hartford & New Haven Railroads.

Opening of Service NEW BEDFORD RAILROAD opened, New Bedford (Wamsutta Street) to Steamboat Wharf, about 1 mile.

7/23/1873
Opening of Service OLD COLONY RAILROAD COMPANY completed the extension from Wellfleet to Provincetown, about 14.3 miles.
