3/21/1901
Milestone Charles Peter Clark, 3rd President of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad Company, dies in Nice, France. His

body was sent home on the steamer Deutschland. When it arrived in New York harbor 3 weeks later, it was met by the New

Haven car ferry "Maryland" where his casket was transferred to a private car on board the Maryland and was attended by 10

uniformed RR employees standing vigil. The car was covered in and out by fresh evergreens. He was then taken from New

York to Boston via a special train across the very railroad network he had done so much to knit together. At his funeral were

800 New Haven directors, officials and rank & file employees.

Milestone NYC&HR directors write to Mayor Seth Low pledging individually to change to electric traction on Park Avenue line as

soon as practicable, if the Wainwright Bill, sets a specific timetable for such a change, is withdrawn.

Opening of Service THE HARTFORD AND CONNECTICUT WESTERN RAILROAD opened its own line East Granby to Suffield, thus

completing its branch between Tariffville and Agawam, a distance of 14.35 miles.
