County Railroad near Norfolk station to Medway village, 3 miles. (Company organized June 10, 1850.)

Cod Branch railroad in Wareham, MA.

Incorporation MIDLAND RAILROAD COMPANY incorporates in Massachusetts, with authority to construct a railroad forming

connection with the Norfolk County Railroad at South Dedham, through Dorchester and South Boston to the foot of Summer

Street, Boston (site of the present South Station), 12,5 miles. (Company organized June 15, 1850.) (Before line was ready for

opening on January 1, 1855, the railroad was merged into Boston & New York Central Railroad Company, December 12,

Incorporation CHARLES RIVER RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to construct a railroad from

Dover, Massachusetts, to Bellingham, Massachusetts, 15.6 miles. (Company organized December 8, 1852.)

Incorporation HAMPDEN RAILROAD COMPANY incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to construct a railroad from Westfield to

the stats line of Connecticut near Granby. (Company organized August 18, 1852.)

Incorporation NORTHAMPTON & WESTFIELD RAILROAD CORPORATION incorporated in Massachusetts, with authority to

construct a railroad from Westfield to Northhampton. (Company organized July 12, 1852.)

Wreck Norwalk, CT. A New York & New Haven Railroad train bound for Boston ran through an open drawbridge and plunged into

the Norwalk River. 46 passengers were crushed to death or drowned just three hundred yards from the city depot. This was

the first major drawbridge accident in the US.
