A
brand new EP-5 with an all Hunter Green consist in April 1955 Between Stratford and Milford, CT.
Front Piece, left --
The location is
Danbury CT on May 27th 1962 and NE-5 C-616 off local freight NX-10 was shoved a
bit too far into the clear.
Front Piece, right --
The NE-5 class hacks
built by Pullman Standard were a sturdy if not popular design. Shown here in its
delivery scheme of caboose red with the standard white lettering.
January --
DEY-3 0966 emerges
from the east side tunnel in Providence, RI in January 1963 with a local turn,
probably from India Point.
February --
Westbound local train
#525 makes its station stop at East Greenwich, RI on a clear and cold day.
March --
The Bay State (Train
#11) negotiates the curve at Boston Switch in Central Falls, RI. The power today
is DER-1c 0754 (DL-109) and a freshly painted DER-3a (PA-1).
April --
DERS-7 #2520 is making
the move off the Shore Line around the east leg of the wye at Devon, CT. The
U-boat is less than two years old here and the trailing DERS-8 will soon have
their work cut out for them on the undulating Maybrook Line.
May --
Two 1400 class DERS-5’s (ALCO RS-11) bracket a
pair of DERS-6 units (FM H-16-44) rounding the east leg of the wye at Devon, CT
in 1958.
June --
At Kingston, RI on a
June 1962 summer’s day, local train #508 makes its eastbound station stop
headed for Providence, RI from New London, CT. RDC units.
July --
Attleboro, MA on a
beautiful summer’s day and EDER-5 #2012 with the Day Cape Codder is about to
blast by the RDC local waiting for it to cross over onto the Shore Line en route
to New York City.
August --
A westbound Penn Station
job on #3 track is about to overtake a lumbering freight on #5 headed for the
Bay Ridge floats. The EP-5 is on the inverted bow bridges over "Little Hell
Gate".
September --
EP-5
#379, the last of the class, in
September 1956 at S.S. 28 (Greenwich CT) tower racing along for points east.
October -- Buzzard’s Bay is the
Gateway to Cape Cod and in October 1963 DERS-4 #1215 (GP-9) in mint condition
backs down under the watchful eyes of the train crew onto the section that will
depart for Wood’s Hole.
November --
Another
Stamford-GCT local prepares for departure in a time-honored scenario.
December --
Two DEY-7 (SW-1200) units show their MU capability
while working the lead between Cedar Hill and S.S. 81 (Shore Line Junction).

A
montage featuring DEY-3, #0918 (Alco/GE
S-1), at Charles street Providence, RI. Ders-2b
at Fall River, MA On 12/31/1963. DER-2a #0406 waits for the call to duty
alongside the out of service coaling dock Cedar Hill Coaling dock.
