The New Haven typically produced some kind of brochure or advertisement for distribution to the public when new equipment arrived on the property, especially new passenger equipment. Here are a few representative examples of publicity material for new equipment dating from the early to mid 1950s. All items from the collection of Marc Frattasio.

Brochure produced by the Mack company during the early 1950s to promote the New Haven's FCD rail busses. The FCDs, which were named after New Haven CEO Frederic C. Dumaine Sr., were intended to provide a low cost alternative to conventional passenger trains on lightly patronized branch lines. The FCDs were, in their original prototype form as depicted on this brochure's cover, literally highway busses that were mounted on railroad wheels. |
| Brochure from the early 1950s promoting the New Haven's then-new Budd Rail Diesel Cars. The Dumaine administration's plan was to use Mack RDCs to feed passengers from lightly patronized branch lines to Budd RDCs running on more heavily traveled branches, which would in turn ultimately feed passengers to conventional trains running on main lines. Though a good idean in theory, in reality passengers preferred to take their cars rather than have to deal with numerous train connections. | ![]() |

When the New Haven's RDCs were new the railroad put them on the covers of local passenger schedules. This example from April 26th 1953 covers trains operating on the Providence and Worcester branch, a line which had no passenger service at all for many years before the RDCs arrived. |
| During 1952 the Pennsylvania Railroad provided a new streamlined consist for the Senator, which operated between Boston and Washington D.C. via the Hell Gate Bridge Route. The Senator was jointly operated by the New Haven and Pennsylvania. The train operated in one direction with Pennsylvania passenger cars while in the opposite direction it operated with a New Haven consist. This 1952 brochure presents the new Pennsylvania consist. | ![]() |
