Local Schedules

The New Haven Railroad published separate schedules for its local passenger trains. Local trains were those trains which stopped at most or all of the stations along their routes. Local trains were often used by commuters. However, unlike the specialized commuter trains, which typically operated only during the early morning and late afternoon hours, the local trains often ran at all hours of the day. The New Haven used this style of local train schedule from the late 19th Century through the 1930s. Sometimes, particularly during the 1920s and 1930s, an illustration of a clock face was placed under the 'script' monogram. This Boston area local schedule dates from 1915.

Local schedules published during the 1940s often featured an illustration of an Alco/GE DL-109 diesel, Baldwin I-5 steamer, and GE EP-4 electric. This artwork was based upon a famous New Haven publicity photograph shot during the Second World War. This Boston/Providence area local schedule dates from 1948.

Local schedules published during the early to mid 1950s often featured a logo which incorporated two streamlined passenger trains pulled by an Alco/GE DL-109 diesel and GE EP-4 electric. This Old Colony district schedule dates from 1953.

The McGinnis 'NH' logo was displayed prominently on local schedules published between 1955 and the early 1960s. This Boston/Providence area local schedule dates from 1962.

The New Haven's unique EMD FL-9 diesel-electric-electric locomotives were often featured on local schedules published from the mid 1960s through the end of the railroad's corporate existance on January 1st 1969. This Boston area local schedule dates from 1967.
